Homestead Weaving Studio is a small family-operated business
in Brown County, Indiana, near the tourist mecca of Nashville,
which creates unique handwoven household items and clothing, and specializes in
making
rugs from recycled material. Most of the supplies we use for our rugs are
byproducts of other industries, where they are considered
"scrap."
Our mission is to keep this usable material
from the waste stream
and to create affordable art from it.
We do custom spinning, dyeing and weaving
and work with clients and interior decorators
to create special pieces of art.
This corduroy rug required
25 pairs of pants and was
woven for a client in Alaska.
This is one of four rugs woven for a client in Minnesota.
The four rugs required 25 pounds of material
which was selected to match the upholstery fabric
shown in the upper right hand corner.
"It was a pleasure working with Homestead Weaving Studio and Chris Gustin.
She was attentive to my needs to have a lot of different kinds of color in our
rugs. Not once did I feel like she "railroaded" me into
something I didn't
want. She used her years of experience as a guide to designing something I
really liked. The end products (four rugs) were absolutely stunning.
I will
definitely do business with Homestead Weaving again."

Our handwoven coat was used in Mount Vernon (Ind.) High School's 1999 production of
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
It required over 6 yards of 54-inch wide fabric to complete.
